my approach to counselling
How I Work
I recognise the utmost importance of fostering a strong therapeutic relationship between you and your counsellor. This relationship serves as a vital foundation, providing a safe and non-judgmental space where you can openly share your deepest thoughts and emotions.
I understand that each counselling session represents a significant moment in your week – a time dedicated solely to you, where your voice is heard and valued above all else.
I offer individuals a comprehensive initial assessment session, enabling them to get to know me and my therapeutic approach while discussing their unique needs and objectives for therapy. This initial session serves as a foundation for establishing a collaborative and trusting therapeutic relationship.
Should you choose to proceed, I provide ongoing weekly sessions lasting 50 minutes each.
My primary training is Person-Centred, however I adopt a humanistic integrative approach that prioritises your needs. Drawing from various theories and interventions, I tailor our work to best support you. I have specialised expertise in addressing trauma through a three-phase model approach. Together, we will establish a secure environment for you to explore your concerns.
Additionally, I am enthusiastic about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is a behavioural therapy that helps you embrace the inevitable challenges of life.
When working with children and young people, I adopt a more creative approach. I prioritise active listening to understand their therapeutic needs and preferences in our sessions. Building a strong rapport is crucial, as I believe it forms the basis of our collaborative work together.
To enhance our progress, I incorporate various creative interventions and games that align with their interests and experiences. It is my responsibility to comprehend their world rather than expecting them to conform to mine.
